Android app privacy

Our apps use information to provide the features you choose, remember preferences and support their operation. Information handled on your device is distinct from information you send to us when you request support, and from information processed by Google Play, Android or another service you use. Modern Bird Clock’s online content services and purchase checks are described in its section below.

If a feature requests an Android permission, you can manage that permission in Android settings. Declining or withdrawing a permission may limit the related feature. Where a feature uses device sensors, the readings support that feature on your device.

Shaker Bottle, Whip Cream and Bong Rip

Information used on your device

Shaker Bottle, Whip Cream and Bong Rip are designed primarily for use on your device. Their basic functions process app data locally and do not routinely send your personal information or app activity to FunnyGood. Preferences and other information needed for an app’s features may be stored in its local Android app storage.

Google Play, Android and external links

Google Play, Android and your device provider may separately process information for app installation, updates, security and diagnostics, depending on the services and settings you use. If an app offers a Google Play purchase, Google handles the transaction and payment details under its own policies; FunnyGood does not receive your payment-card details. See Google’s privacy policy.

If you open a website or support link from an app, the destination receives the information needed to handle your visit, such as your IP address and browser information. If you email us, we receive the information you choose to send. Visiting sunimod.com is covered by the website section below.

Local storage, backup and deletion

Locally stored app information remains until it is removed or replaced by the app, you clear the app’s data in Android settings, or you uninstall it. Clearing app data resets locally saved preferences and removes the app-owned information stored there.

Depending on the app, Android version, device and your settings, Android or your backup provider may back up or transfer local app data. Existing platform backups and information held by Google Play or another provider are separate from the app’s local storage. Clearing app data or uninstalling an app does not necessarily remove those records. Manage them through the relevant provider’s settings. FunnyGood cannot remotely erase data that remains only on your device.

Modern Bird Clock

Modern Bird Clock for Android is published by FunnyGood. The following details apply specifically to Modern Bird Clock.

Using the app

You do not need a Modern Bird Clock account. The clock, its starter birds and its basic features work without signing in or setting up an online bird catalog. The app does not display advertising. Online content requests and Google Play billing checks can still occur as described below.

The app keeps your clock settings, region, bird assignments, quiet hours, language preferences, downloaded content and a recent playback record on your device. Device language, country and time zone help format the clock and suggest a starter region.

Optional approximate location and playback permissions

You may allow approximate location to help choose a regional starter bird set. The app uses those coordinates on your device and does not send them to FunnyGood or its content providers. It does not request precise location. If you decline, it uses country, language and time-zone signals instead. You can change location permission in Android settings.

This permission controls access to your device’s location coordinates. Online services may separately infer approximate location from your IP address, as described below.

Notification and exact-alarm permissions support hourly bird playback. They are separate from location and online catalog access.

Audio and images you import

Pro users may choose an audio file or image through Android’s document picker. The app reads only the file you select, creates local copies for playback or artwork, and keeps its file name and information linking it to your chosen bird. Imported images are converted into local artwork and thumbnails. The app does not request broad access to your media library or upload your imported files to FunnyGood or a content provider.

Google Play purchases

Pro is an optional one-time purchase through Google Play. Google processes purchase and restore requests and handles your payment details under its own policies. Modern Bird Clock keeps a local record of Pro access; it does not ask for or store your payment card details.

Google’s billing component also sends technical information and diagnostics to Google, including app and Android versions, device model, language and region settings, billing results and errors, and temporary identifiers used to connect related billing events. These records help operate, improve and troubleshoot billing. The app checks Pro access automatically, so these service requests can occur even when you are not making a purchase. See Google’s privacy policy.

Optional online bird search

Free and Pro users can choose to enter their own xeno-canto API key and search the online recording catalog. Pro is required to import and assign birds beyond the starter selection and to use additional recording options. No catalog key is required for the built-in starter clock.

If you save a key, the app stores it encrypted on your device. The key identifies your xeno-canto account to that service. Catalog searches send the key and your search query over HTTPS; connection checks send the key and a sample bird lookup. When configured, Pro recording enrichment can also send the key and bird lookup requests automatically. You can remove the saved key in Settings or clear the app’s data.

Bird artwork and other service requests

The app requests compatible bird artwork from Wikimedia Commons and PhyloPic. These requests use bird names or catalog identifiers. Artwork lookup can run automatically for starter birds, including for Free users, and when you search or import catalog content. Recording searches and downloads may connect to xeno-canto and the content provider hosting the selected file.

Google Play and the content providers receive the requests needed to supply their services, along with connection information such as your IP address. Modern Bird Clock does not upload your device location coordinates, clock settings or imported personal media as part of those requests. Its Credits and Licenses screen identifies the sources of bird content.

Wikimedia’s published documentation describes logging API and image requests and using IP addresses to infer approximate city or country location. Wikimedia uses this information for purposes including service analytics and security. Its web-request data is generally deleted after 90 days. This period describes Wikimedia’s request data; other records and providers follow their own retention policies. See Wikimedia’s privacy policy, request-data documentation and geolocation documentation.

Android backup and device transfer

Android may back up or transfer app settings, downloaded content, imported audio, converted images, thumbnails and their associated records, depending on your Android version, device and backup settings. Imported files are not excluded from these platform-managed backups. This is separate from the app’s import flow, which does not upload the files.

The app excludes saved catalog keys, local purchase-access records and cached bird catalog metadata from Android backup and device transfer. You can manage platform backups through your Android or backup-provider settings.

Retention and deletion

App-owned settings, content and associated records remain locally until removed or replaced by the app, you clear its data, or you uninstall it. Temporary cached information may expire automatically. Clearing app data removes local settings, saved catalog keys, and the app-owned copies of downloaded or imported files. It leaves the original files selected through Android’s document picker outside the app’s storage.

There is no Modern Bird Clock account to delete. Clearing app data does not erase purchases held by Google Play, information retained by another provider, or existing platform backups. Manage those records through the relevant provider. Restoring a purchase checks your Google Play account again.

Google Play, xeno-canto and PhyloPic handle the retention of their service records under their own policies. The app does not set a deletion schedule for those records.
